taking verbal commands from the diver
via a set of headphones was blown out of
his seat. He landed unconscious on the
deck and was transported by chopper to
the hospital. He recovered completely
and was back to work the next day.

BEATING THE BLUES … NOW
The article “Staying Neutral: Beating
the BCD blues” (“Gear,” Spring 2011)
was enlightening. My wife and I dive
maybe one week a year. We always do
a good rinsing after each dive. I never
gave much thought to servicing the
BCD. We have our regulators serviced
before every dive vacation, but never
the BCD. Because of our infrequent
diving, our BCDs still look brand new.
Looks can be deceiving. Thanks for
making me think more about it.

SOAKING IT UP LIKE A SPONGE
I spent some quality time with Alert
Diver; that is a great magazine! I’m
going to give a copy to my friend [at]
the History of Diving Museum, mainly
for the story on sponge divers by
Petar Denoble (“The Story of Sponge
Divers,” Spring 2011). The history
Denoble presents in that article is deep
(no pun intended, but acknowledged),
fascinating and very well written.

The caption on Page 38 (Alert Diver, Summer 2011) incorrectly stated the SOS Hyperlite
portable chamber is filled with oxygen. It is filled with air, and oxygen is delivered via a
built-in breathing system.
The map of the Philippines (Summer 2011, Page 68) incorrectly depicted the Anilao
described in the text. The location described in the text is just north of Puerto Galera
across the Verde Island Passage. The Anilao shown on the map on the east side of
Panay Island is in the Visayas, not the Verde Island Passage.
We regret the errors.
