I
would like to begin this year’s update by saying thank
you. The support DAN
®
receives from the diving
community in the form of memberships and donations
is critical to our survival and ability to develop and
maintain the services and educational opportunities we
provide. In these uncertain economic times, your loyalty is
all the more appreciated, and we are committed to earning
and maintaining your trust. DAN is busier than ever, and I
am proud of what we accomplished this year and thank you
for helping us serve the diving community at this level.
2011 has been the year of education and outreach. Our
motto, “Divers Helping Divers,” has never been truer. In
every department, we’ve taken dynamic strides to ensure
DAN provides you with the highest level of support possible.
The Education department undertook the incredibly
ambitious task of revising DAN’s entire suite of prehospital
first aid provider courses. Using the new CPR and first aid
guidelines released by the International Liaison Committee
on Resuscitation and the American Heart Association as a
springboard, the redesigned programs pull out all the stops,
incorporating new video, text, graphics and bonus content.
We hope you’ll take advantage of the new programs and
incorporate them into your 2012 continuing education plans.
As part of our international chamber assistance work,
we are proud to report the National Board of Diving and
Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved both our chamber
attendants and operators program as well as our chamber
maintenance programs. This approval validates the integrity
and importance of these programs and enables DAN
to provide these courses on a wider scale. The chamber
maintenance course is a new offering and was created in
collaboration with our international DAN (IDAN) partners.
