The first step in finding a pygmy
seahorse is recognizing the
host Muricella gorgonian, and then
the search is on for the half-inch-
long fish, which looks exactly like one
of the coral’s polyps and may or may
not actually be there. My goal was
to take the best-ever super-macro,
head-on photo of a pygmy seahorse.
