Needlefish Reflection
Bonaire, Netherlands
By Todd Bretl
I surfaced from a night dive to find needlefish
hunting small minnows at the surface. In the
darkness I had to use focus lights to frame and
focus the shot. As soon as I put my light on the
needlefish, massive tarpon would burst from the
depths and eat the needlefish before I could even
take a shot. I had to turn off my lights, adjust my
eyes to the darkness and prefocus my lens. Without
the artificial light, these needlefish could eat in
peace, and I got the shot I was hoping for.
